CVE-2018-3896

CVSS v3.1

9.9

Critical

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Samsung SmartThings Hub version 0.20.17
Description A buffer overflow issue exists in the /cameras/XXXX/clips handler of the video-core's HTTP server. The video-core process incorrectly handles user-controlled JSON payloads, leading to a buffer overflow on the stack due to the strncpy call overflowing a 52-byte destination buffer. An attacker can exploit this by sending an arbitrarily long correlationId value.
Recommendations For Samsung SmartThings Hub version 0.20.17, as a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the /cameras/XXXX/clips handler until a patch is available. Avoid using arbitrarily long correlationId values in the affected API endpoint until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
