CVSS v3.1
9.9
Critical
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Samsung SmartThings Hub STH-ETH-250 version 0.20.17
Description
The issue arises from the insecure extraction of fields from the "shard" table in the SQLite database by the video-core process, leading to a buffer overflow on the stack. This can be triggered by sending an HTTP request. Specifically, the
strcpy call overflows a destination buffer of 16 bytes. An attacker can exploit this by sending an arbitrarily long "region" value.Recommendations
For Samsung SmartThings Hub STH-ETH-250 version 0.20.17, consider restricting access to the video-core process until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, avoid using arbitrarily long "region" values in HTTP requests to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
