CVE-2018-8473

CVSS v2.0

7.6

High

VectorAV:N/AC:H/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: Microsoft Edge (affected versions not specified) ChakraCore (affected versions not specified)
Description: The issue is caused by a buffer overflow in memory due to improper handling of JavaScript scripts by the ChakraCore engine in Microsoft Edge. This could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code using a specially crafted web page. The vulnerability can corrupt memory, enabling an attacker to gain the same user rights as the current user. If the current user has administrative rights, an attacker could take control of the affected system, install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights.
Recommendations: For Microsoft Edge, update to a version that properly accesses objects in memory to prevent the vulnerability. For ChakraCore, ensure that the JavaScript engine is updated to handle scripts without causing a buffer overflow in memory. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
