CVE-2018-6406

CVSS v3.1

8.8

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions libwebm through 2018-01-30
Description The issue is related to the function ParseVP9SuperFrameIndex in common/libwebm util.cc, which does not validate the child frame length data obtained from a .webm file. This allows remote attackers to cause an information leak or a denial of service, resulting in a heap-based buffer over-read and later out-of-bounds write, or possibly having unspecified other impact.
Recommendations For libwebm through 2018-01-30, as a temporary workaround, consider disabling the ParseVP9SuperFrameIndex function until a patch is available. Restrict access to .webm files to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
