CVE-2018-7643

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions GNU Binutils version 2.30
Description The issue is related to the display debug ranges function in dwarf.c and is caused by an integer overflow. This can allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service, resulting in an application crash, or possibly have other unspecified impacts. The vulnerability can be exploited via a crafted ELF file, as demonstrated by the objdump tool.
Recommendations For GNU Binutils version 2.30, consider disabling the display debug ranges function as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict the use of objdump with untrusted ELF files to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
