CVE-2018-20743

CVSS v3.1

7.5

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Mumble versions prior to 1.2.19
Description The issue is related to insufficient input validation in the Murmur server component of Mumble, which can be exploited by a remote attacker to cause a denial of service. This can be achieved by sending a large number of messages over a short period, resulting in the daemon hanging or crashing due to the handling of multiple concurrent requests persisted in the database.
Recommendations For versions prior to 1.2.19, update to version 1.2.19 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider implementing rate limiting on incoming messages to minimize the risk of exploitation. Restrict access to the Murmur server component to trusted sources until the update can be applied.
