CVE-2018-6176
CVSS v2.0
9.0
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Google Chrome versions prior to 68.0.3440.75
Description
The issue is related to insufficient input validation in the chrome.downloads.open() function and insufficient file type enforcement in the Extensions API. This could allow a remote attacker to perform privilege escalation via a specially crafted Chrome Extension.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 68.0.3440.75, update to version 68.0.3440.75 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of the chrome.downloads.open() function and the Extensions API until the update is applied. Avoid installing untrusted Chrome Extensions to minimize the risk of exploitation.
