CVE-2018-16741

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions mgetty versions prior to 1.2.1
Description The issue is related to the function do activate() in mgetty, which does not properly sanitize shell metacharacters, allowing command injection. This can be exploited using characters such as ||, &&, or > within a file created by the "faxq-helper activate " command.
Recommendations For versions prior to 1.2.1, update to version 1.2.1 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of the do activate() function or limiting access to the "faxq-helper activate " command until a patch is applied. Avoid using the characters ||, &&, or > in files created by the "faxq-helper activate " command to minimize the risk of exploitation.
