Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
co-cli-installer versions (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue arises from the co-cli-installer downloading the co-cli module over HTTP, making it susceptible to man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks. This could potentially lead to remote code execution (RCE) if an attacker intercepts the request and replaces the requested resources with a malicious copy, particularly if the attacker is on the same network or positioned between the user and the remote server. In scenarios where an attacker has a privileged network position, it is possible to intercept the response and replace the executable with a malicious one, resulting in code execution on the system running co-cli-installer.
Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
As a mitigation measure, consider avoiding the use of this package and opt for a different package if available.
Alternatively, reduce the risk of exploitation by avoiding installation of this package while connected to a public network, and be cautious of potential threats if the package is installed on a private network.
