9.3
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
serc.js (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue allows for potential remote code execution (RCE) due to the insecure download of binary resources over HTTP, making it susceptible to man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks. If an attacker is on the network or positioned between the user and the remote server, they may be able to swap out the requested resources with an attacker-controlled copy. This could result in code execution on the system running serc.js, particularly in scenarios where an attacker has a privileged network position and can intercept the response to replace the executable with a malicious one.

To mitigate this issue, consider avoiding the use of this package and opt for a different package if available.
As a temporary measure, reduce the risk of exploitation by ensuring that this package is not installed while connected to a public network.
Restrict the installation of this package to private networks only, to minimize the risk of exploitation by unauthorized parties.
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
