CVE-2016-10689

CVSS v2.0

9.3

High

VectorAV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions windows-iedriver (affected versions not specified)
Description The issue allows for a man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack due to the insecure download of binary resources over HTTP. This could potentially lead to remote code execution (RCE) if an attacker intercepts the response and replaces the executable with a malicious one. The attack is feasible if the attacker has a privileged network position.
Recommendations To mitigate the issue, avoid using the windows-iedriver package if possible, and consider using a different package instead. As a temporary workaround, reduce the risk of exploitation by avoiding the installation of this package while connected to a public network. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
