CVSS v3.1

8.8

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: FreeXL version 1.0.3
Description: A heap-based buffer overflow issue exists in the read biff next record function, allowing remote code execution through memory corruption. This can be triggered by a specially crafted XLS file sent by an attacker.
Recommendations: For FreeXL version 1.0.3, as a temporary workaround, consider disabling the read biff next record function until a patch is available. Avoid processing untrusted XLS files with the affected version to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
