Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
RubyGems versions 2.6 through 3.0.2
Description:
The issue is related to insufficient escaping in the Gem::UserInteraction module of the RubyGems package management system. This allows a remote attacker to inject escape sequences, potentially compromising data integrity. The
say function is called without proper escaping by Gem::UserInteraction#verbose, making escape sequence injection possible.Recommendations:
For versions 2.6 through 3.0.2, consider disabling the
Gem::UserInteraction#verbose function until a patch is available to prevent escape sequence injection.
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.Exploit
