CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Cisco NX-OS Software versions prior to 7.0(3)I7(4)
Description A vulnerability in the CLI of Cisco NX-OS Software could allow an authenticated, local attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system of an affected device. The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of arguments passed to certain CLI commands. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by including malicious input as the argument of an affected command. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system with elevated privileges. An attacker would need valid user credentials to exploit this vulnerability.
Recommendations For versions prior to 7.0(3)I7(4), update to a version that includes the fix for this vulnerability, as Cisco has released software updates that address this issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the CLI commands that are vulnerable to command injection attacks until a patch is available. Avoid using malicious input as arguments to affected commands to minimize the risk of exploitation.
