CVE-2019-14970

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions VideoLAN VLC media player version 3.0.7.1
Description The issue is related to a heap-based buffer overflow in the mkv::event thread t function of the VideoLAN VLC media player. This can be triggered by remote attackers using a crafted .mkv file, potentially allowing them to impact data integrity, gain unauthorized access to protected information, and cause a denial of service.
Recommendations For version 3.0.7.1, consider disabling the mkv::event thread t function as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to .mkv files to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
