| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Advantech WebAccess/SCADA version 8.4.1
Description
The issue is related to a stack-based buffer overflow that allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code via a crafted IOCTL 70603 RPC message. This is due to improper validation of user-provided data before copying it into a fixed-size buffer in the BwPAlarm.dll library. The exploitation of this issue can enable a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code using a specially crafted RPC message.
Recommendations
For Advantech WebAccess/SCADA version 8.4.1, consider disabling the
GetUserPasswd function in the BwPAlarm.dll library as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to the IOCTL 70603 RPC endpoint to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.Exploit
