Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Java SE versions 7u231, 8u221, 11.0.4, and 13
Java SE Embedded version 8u221
Description
The issue is related to a vulnerability in the 2D component of Oracle Java SE and Java SE Embedded, which can be exploited by an unauthenticated attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise Java SE or Java SE Embedded, resulting in a partial denial of service. This vulnerability applies to Java deployments, typically in clients running sandboxed Java Web Start applications or sandboxed Java applets, that load and run untrusted code and rely on the Java sandbox for security. The vulnerability can also be exploited by using APIs in the specified component.
Recommendations
For Java SE versions 7u231, 8u221, 11.0.4, and 13, consider disabling the 2D component until a patch is available.
For Java SE Embedded version 8u221, consider restricting access to the 2D component to minimize the risk of exploitation.
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the use of APIs in the 2D component until a patch is available.
Avoid using the Java Web Start applications or sandboxed Java applets that load and run untrusted code until the issue is resolved.
