Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 5.3.11
Description
The issue is related to an uncontrolled resource consumption in the Linux kernel, specifically in the
rtl usb probe() function and a memory leak in the crypto report() function. This can be exploited by an attacker to cause a denial of service, potentially leading to memory consumption by triggering crypto report alg() failures.Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 5.3.11, update to version 5.3.11 or later to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the
crypto report() function and the rtl usb probe() function to minimize the risk of exploitation.Fix
