CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 5.3.11
Description The issue is related to the i40e setup macvlans function in the Linux kernel, which is associated with an uncontrolled resource consumption, also known as a resource exhaustion issue. This can be exploited by an attacker to cause a denial of service. The exploitation is possible by triggering i40e setup channel failures, which leads to memory consumption.
Recommendations For Linux kernel versions prior to 5.3.11, update to version 5.3.11 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the i40e setup macvlans function to minimize the risk of exploitation.
