Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
TigerVNC versions prior to 1.10.1
Description
The issue is related to a use-after-free error in the ZRLEDecoder of TigerVNC, which can be exploited by a remote attacker to access confidential data, compromise data integrity, and cause a denial of service. The vulnerability occurs due to incorrect usage of stack memory in the ZRLEDecoder, potentially allowing remote code execution if the decoding routine throws an exception. This can be exploited via network connectivity.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 1.10.1, update to version 1.10.1 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting network connectivity to minimize the risk of exploitation.
