CVE-2020-25665

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions ImageMagick versions prior to 7.0.8-68
Description The issue is related to the PALM image coder in ImageMagick, which makes an improper call to AcquireQuantumMemory() in the WritePALMImage() routine due to an offset of 256. This can cause an out-of-bounds read later in the routine, potentially impacting reliability. The flaw allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service by exploiting the out-of-bounds read in the buffer data.
Recommendations For versions prior to 7.0.8-68, update to version 7.0.8-68 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the WritePALMImage() routine in the coders/palm.c file until a patch is applied. Additionally, be cautious when handling PALM image files to minimize the risk of exploitation.
