CVE-2019-25040

CVSS v2.0

7.8

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Unbound versions prior to 1.9.5
Description The issue is related to the function dname pkt copy in the Unbound DNS server, which can lead to an infinite loop when processing a compressed name. This could potentially allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service. However, the vendor disputes that this is a vulnerability, stating that although the code may be vulnerable, a running Unbound installation cannot be remotely or locally exploited.
Recommendations For Unbound versions prior to 1.9.5, update to version 1.9.5 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the dname pkt copy function to minimize the risk of exploitation.
