| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Lustre file system versions prior to 2.12.3
Description
The issue is related to an out-of-bounds read and panic in the ptlrpc module of the Lustre file system. This occurs due to the lack of validation for specific fields of packets sent by a client, caused by interaction between the
sptlrpc svc unwrap request function and lustre msg hdr size v2. The vulnerability can be exploited by a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.Recommendations
For versions prior to 2.12.3, update to version 2.12.3 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the
ptlrpc module to minimize the risk of exploitation. Additionally, avoid using modified lm bufcount fields in packets sent by clients until the issue is resolved.Exploit
