CVE-2018-16988

CVSS v3.1

9.8

Critical

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Open XDMoD versions prior to 7.5.0
Description An issue exists due to a weak password reset mechanism, allowing for an authentication bypass, which can lead to account takeover. In a plausible scenario where the attacker is aware that the victim has initiated a password-reset process, a brute-force attack against an MD5 rid value can be successful with as few as 600 guesses. This is related to the pass reset.php, password reset.php, and XDUser.php files.
Recommendations For Open XDMoD versions prior to 7.5.0, update to version 7.5.0 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the password reset mechanism to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the password reset feature until the issue is resolved.
