CVE-2019-5181

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions WAGO PFC 200 Firmware version 03.02.02(14)
Description A stack buffer overflow issue exists in the iocheckd service due to the 'I/O-Check' functionality. This can be triggered by a specially crafted XML cache file, which when parsed, causes a stack buffer overflow, potentially leading to code execution. An attacker can exploit this by sending a specially crafted packet to the device. The overflow occurs in the destination buffer sp+0x440 when the sprintf() function is called with subnetmask values that exceed a certain length threshold, specifically greater than 1024-len('/etc/config-tools/config interfaces interface=X1 state=enabled subnet-mask='). For example, a subnetmask value of length 0x3d9 can cause the service to crash.
Recommendations For WAGO PFC 200 Firmware version 03.02.02(14), as a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the iocheckd service until a patch is available. Avoid using subnetmask values that are too long, as this can trigger the overflow. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
