Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Foxit PhantomPDF version 9.7.0.29478
Description
This issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations. User interaction is required to exploit this issue, where the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the communication API, specifically in the handling of the
ConvertToPDF command, which allows an arbitrary file write with attacker-controlled data. An attacker can leverage this issue to execute code in the context of the current process.Recommendations
For Foxit PhantomPDF version 9.7.0.29478, as a temporary workaround, consider disabling the
ConvertToPDF command until a patch is available. Restrict access to the communication API to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the ConvertToPDF command in affected API endpoints until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.Fix
