CVE-2020-10924

CVSS v3.1

8.8

High

VectorAV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions NETGEAR R6700 version 1.0.4.84 10.0.58
Description This issue allows network-adjacent attackers to bypass authentication on affected installations of NETGEAR R6700 routers. Although authentication is required to exploit this issue, the existing authentication mechanism can be bypassed. The specific flaw exists within the UPnP service, which listens on TCP port 5000 by default. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a fixed-length, stack-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this issue to execute code in the context of root.
Recommendations For NETGEAR R6700 version 1.0.4.84 10.0.58, as a temporary workaround, consider disabling the UPnP service until a patch is available. Restrict access to TCP port 5000 to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
