CVE-2020-12670
CVSS v3.1
6.1
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Webmin versions 1.941 and earlier
Description
A security issue exists in the Save function of the Read User Email Module, specifically at the "mailboxes Endpoint", where it fails to sanitize SCRIPT elements when saving HTML emails. This is in contrast to the View function, which correctly sanitizes input. As a result, a malicious user can inject and execute JavaScript payloads by sending them in the message body of an email, which will be executed if the user attempts to save the email.
Recommendations
For Webmin versions 1.941 and earlier, as a temporary workaround, consider disabling the Save function of the Read User Email Module until a patch is available. Restrict access to the mailboxes Endpoint to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the Save function for HTML emails until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
