CVSS v3.1
7.8
High
| Vector | AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Pi-Hole versions prior to 5.0
Description
An issue was discovered where the local www-data user has sudo privileges to execute the pihole core script as root without a password. This could allow an attacker to obtain root access via shell metacharacters to the script's setdns command.
Recommendations
For Pi-Hole versions prior to 5.0, consider restricting the sudo privileges of the www-data user to prevent execution of the pihole core script as root without a password, or update to version 5.0 or later to mitigate the risk of exploitation. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the setdns command in the pihole core script until a patch is available.
