CVSS v3.1

8.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Parallels Desktop version 15.1.4
Description This issue allows local attackers to escalate privileges on affected installations. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this issue. The specific flaw exists within the prl hypervisor kext. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of user-supplied data, which can result in a read past the end of an allocated buffer. An attacker can leverage this issue to escalate privileges and execute code in the context of the hypervisor.
Recommendations For Parallels Desktop version 15.1.4, consider disabling the prl hypervisor kext as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to the prl hypervisor kext to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
