Description A heap-based buffer over-read issue occurs in the set text free function when called from expand one smacro in asm/preproc.c, potentially allowing an attacker to impact the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information. This can be triggered via a crafted .asm file.
Recommendations For Netwide Assembler (NASM) version 2.15rc0, consider avoiding the use of crafted .asm files until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, restrict the use of the set text free function to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
