Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
GNOME Geary versions prior to 3.36.3
Description
The issue concerns the mishandling of pinned TLS certificate verification for IMAP and SMTP services. Specifically, it affects situations where invalid TLS certificates, such as self-signed certificates, are used and the client system is not configured to use a system-provided PKCS#11 store. This could allow a man-in-the-middle to intercept incoming and outgoing mail by presenting a different invalid certificate.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 3.36.3, update to version 3.36.3 or later to resolve the issue.
