CVE-2020-27359

CVSS v3.1

5.4

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions REDCap versions 8.11.6 through 9.x before 10
Description A cross-site scripting (XSS) issue allows attackers to inject arbitrary JavaScript or HTML in the Messenger feature. The filename of the image or file attached in a message could be used to perform this XSS attack. A user could craft a message and send it to anyone on the platform, including admins. The XSS payload would execute on the other account without interaction from the user on several pages.
Recommendations For versions 8.11.6 through 9.x before 10, consider disabling the Messenger feature until a patch is available to prevent the injection of arbitrary JavaScript or HTML. Restrict access to the Messenger feature to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the filename of the image or file attached in a message to prevent the XSS attack.
