Description The issue is related to improper privilege management in the bztransmit helper, specifically due to a lack of permission handling and validation before creating client update directories. This allows for local escalation of privilege via a rogue client update binary.
Recommendations For Backblaze for Windows versions prior to 7.0.0.439, update to version 7.0.0.439 or later to resolve the issue. For Backblaze for macOS versions prior to 7.0.0.439, update to version 7.0.0.439 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the bztransmit helper until a patch is applied.
