Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Backblaze for Windows versions prior to 7.0.0.439
Backblaze for macOS versions prior to 7.0.0.439
Description
The issue is related to improper privilege management in the
bztransmit helper, specifically due to a lack of permission handling and validation before creating client update directories. This allows for local escalation of privilege via a rogue client update binary.Recommendations
For Backblaze for Windows versions prior to 7.0.0.439, update to version 7.0.0.439 or later to resolve the issue.
For Backblaze for macOS versions prior to 7.0.0.439, update to version 7.0.0.439 or later to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the
bztransmit helper until a patch is applied.Exploit
