CVE-2020-8847

CVSS v3.1

7.8

High

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Foxit Reader version 9.7.0.29455
Description This issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations. User interaction is required, where the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The flaw exists within the processing of JPEG2000 files due to the lack of proper validation of user-supplied data, resulting in a write past the end of an allocated structure. An attacker can leverage this to execute code in the context of the current process.
Recommendations For Foxit Reader version 9.7.0.29455, consider updating to a newer version that addresses this issue, as the current version allows for remote code execution due to improper validation of user-supplied data in JPEG2000 file processing. As a temporary workaround, avoid opening malicious files or visiting suspicious pages with Foxit Reader until a patch is available. Restrict access to JPEG2000 files to minimize the risk of exploitation.
