CVSS v2.0

9.0

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Cisco Small Business RV320 and RV325 Series Routers versions (affected versions not specified) Cisco Small Business RV016, RV042, and RV082 Routers versions (affected versions not specified)
Description The issue is related to insufficient boundary restrictions on user-supplied input to scripts in the web-based management interface, which could allow an authenticated, remote attacker with administrative privileges to execute arbitrary code on an affected device. This is due to a buffer overflow vulnerability. An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by sending crafted requests that contain overly large values to an affected device, causing a stack overflow. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the device to crash or execute arbitrary code with root privileges on the underlying operating system.
Recommendations For Cisco Small Business RV320 and RV325 Series Routers, restrict access to the web-based management interface until a patch is available. For Cisco Small Business RV016, RV042, and RV082 Routers, consider disabling the web-based management interface as a temporary workaround until a fix is provided. Avoid using the web-based management interface for administrative tasks until the issue is resolved. As a temporary mitigation measure, limit the privileges of administrative users to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
