| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux kernel versions prior to 5.9-rc7
Description:
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel that may allow traffic between two Geneve endpoints to be unencrypted when IPsec is configured to encrypt traffic for the specific UDP port used by the GENEVE tunnel. This could allow anyone between the two endpoints to read the traffic unencrypted, posing a threat to data confidentiality. The vulnerability is related to the implementation of the GENEVE protocol and the lack of protection for transmitted data, which could enable a remote attacker to gain unauthorized access to protected information.
Recommendations:
For Linux kernel versions prior to 5.9-rc7, update to version 5.9-rc7 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the use of the GENEVE tunnel or restricting access to the specific UDP port used by the tunnel until a patch is available.
