CVE-2020-36311
CVSS v3.1
5.5
Medium
| Vector | AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux kernel versions prior to 5.9
Description:
The issue is related to the arch/x86/kvm/svm/sev.c component of the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) subsystem in the Linux kernel, which can lead to a denial of service (soft lockup) due to uncontrolled resource consumption. This can be triggered by destroying a large SEV VM, requiring the unregistering of many encrypted regions.
Recommendations:
For versions prior to 5.9, update to version 5.9 or later to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the creation and destruction of large SEV VMs to minimize the risk of exploitation.
