CVE-2020-13904

CVSS v3.1

9.8

Critical

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: FFmpeg versions 2.8 through 4.2.3
Description: The issue is related to a use-after-free error in the parse playlist function of the libavformat library, specifically when handling a crafted EXTINF duration in an m3u8 file. This error occurs because the parse playlist function in libavformat/hls.c frees a pointer, which is later accessed in av probe input format3 in libavformat/format.c. The exploitation of this issue may allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.
Recommendations: For FFmpeg version 2.8, update to a version where this issue is fixed. For FFmpeg version 4.2.3, update to a version where this issue is fixed. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of m3u8 files with crafted EXTINF durations until a patch is available.
