CVSS v3.1

8.8

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Openscad version 2020.12-RC2
Description The issue is related to an out-of-bounds write in the import stl() functionality of the import stl.cc component. This can be triggered by a specially crafted STL file, potentially leading to code execution. An attacker can exploit this by providing a malicious file, which may result in unauthorized access to confidential data, disruption of data integrity, or denial of service.
Recommendations For Openscad version 2020.12-RC2, consider avoiding the use of the import stl() function until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, restrict the import of STL files from untrusted sources to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
