CVE-2020-12829

CVSS v3.1

3.8

Low

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:L
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions QEMU versions prior to 5.0.0
Description The issue is related to an integer overflow in the SM501 display driver implementation, specifically in the COPY AREA macro while handling MMIO write operations through the sm501 2d engine write() callback. This can be exploited by a local attacker to crash the QEMU process, resulting in a denial of service. The sm501 2d operation() function in hw/display/sm501.c is affected.
Recommendations For QEMU versions prior to 5.0.0, update to version 5.0.0 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the SM501 display driver implementation to minimize the risk of exploitation.
