Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions through 5.10.4
Description
The issue is related to the
mwifiex cmd 802 11 ad hoc start function in the Linux kernel's Marvell driver, which is vulnerable to a buffer overflow due to a lack of input size validation. This can be exploited by remote attackers to execute arbitrary code using a long SSID value.Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions through 5.10.4, consider disabling the
mwifiex cmd 802 11 ad hoc start function as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to the join.c file in the drivers/net/wireless/marvell/mwifiex directory to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using long SSID values in the affected API endpoint until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.RCE
