CVSS v3.1

5.5

Medium

VectorAV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions GNU Binutils versions 2.34 through 2.35
Description A Null Pointer Dereference issue exists in the Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library, as distributed in GNU Binutils, in the bfd elf get symbol version string function, which can cause a denial of service via a crafted file. This issue can be demonstrated in nm-new.
Recommendations For GNU Binutils version 2.34, update to a version later than 2.35 to resolve the issue. For GNU Binutils version 2.35, consider disabling the bfd elf get symbol version string function as a temporary workaround until a patch is available.
