CVE-2020-36773

CVSS v2.0

10

Critical

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Artifex Ghostscript versions prior to 9.53.0
Description The issue is related to an out-of-bounds write and use-after-free in the devices/vector/gdevtxtw.c component of Ghostscript, specifically affecting the txtwrite functionality. This occurs because a single character code in a PDF document can map to more than one Unicode code point, such as in the case of a ligature. Exploitation of this issue could allow a remote attacker to impact the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information.
Recommendations For Artifex Ghostscript versions prior to 9.53.0, update to version 9.53.0 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of the txtwrite functionality in devices/vector/gdevtxtw.c until a patch is applied. Avoid using PDF documents that contain character codes mapping to multiple Unicode code points, such as ligatures, in the affected Ghostscript versions.
