Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Oracle VM VirtualBox versions prior to 6.1.18
Description:
The issue exists due to insufficient input validation in the Core component of Oracle VM VirtualBox. Exploitation of this issue can allow an attacker to impact the confidentiality and integrity of protected information. A high-privileged attacker with logon to the infrastructure where Oracle VM VirtualBox executes can compromise Oracle VM VirtualBox, and successful attacks can result in unauthorized update, insert, or delete access to some of Oracle VM VirtualBox's accessible data, as well as unauthorized read access to a subset of Oracle VM VirtualBox's accessible data.
Recommendations:
For versions prior to 6.1.18, update to version 6.1.18 or later to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the Core component of Oracle VM VirtualBox to minimize the risk of exploitation.
Restrict logon to the infrastructure where Oracle VM VirtualBox executes to high-privileged attackers only.
