CVE-2021-26928
CVSS v3.1
6.8
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
BIRD versions 2.0.7 and earlier
Description:
The issue is related to the lack of password authentication functionality for BGP peers in BIRD, which may make products that use BIRD susceptible to route redirection, potentially leading to Denial of Service and/or Information Disclosure. This could affect not only BIRD itself but also products from other vendors that utilize BIRD in certain configurations. A dispute has been noted between a researcher and Tigera regarding the responsibility for this behavior.
Recommendations:
For BIRD versions 2.0.7 and earlier, consider implementing alternative authentication mechanisms or access controls to mitigate the risk of route redirection until a patch or official fix is available. As a temporary workaround, restricting access to BGP peers or implementing additional network segmentation may help minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
