CVE-2021-27218
CVSS v2.0
10
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
GLib versions prior to 2.66.7
GLib versions 2.67.x prior to 2.67.4
Description
The issue is related to the function
g byte array new take() in the GLib library, which is associated with the copying of a buffer without checking the size of the input data. If this function is called with a buffer of 4GB or more on a 64-bit platform, the length would be truncated modulo 2**32, causing unintended length truncation. This could potentially allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code.Recommendations
For GLib versions prior to 2.66.7, update to version 2.66.7 or later.
For GLib versions 2.67.x prior to 2.67.4, update to version 2.67.4 or later.
As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of the
g byte array new take() function with large buffers until a patch is available.Fix
Buffer Overflow
