CVE-2021-38598
CVSS v3.1
9.1
Critical
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
OpenStack Neutron versions prior to 16.4.1
OpenStack Neutron 17.x versions prior to 17.1.3
OpenStack Neutron version 18.0.0
Description
The issue allows hardware address impersonation when the linuxbridge driver with ebtables-nft is used on a Netfilter-based platform. By sending carefully crafted packets, anyone in control of a server instance connected to the virtual switch can impersonate the hardware addresses of other systems on the network, resulting in denial of service or in some cases possibly interception of traffic intended for other destinations.
Recommendations
For OpenStack Neutron versions prior to 16.4.1, update to version 16.4.1 or later.
For OpenStack Neutron 17.x versions prior to 17.1.3, update to version 17.1.3 or later.
For OpenStack Neutron version 18.0.0, update to a version later than 18.0.0.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the virtual switch to minimize the risk of exploitation.
