CVE-2021-41689

CVSS v3.1

7.5

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions DCMTK versions 3.6.6 and earlier
Description The issue is related to improper string copy handling in DCMTK. By sending specific requests to the dcmqrdb program, an attacker can cause the program to query its database and copy the result, even if the result is null, leading to a heap-based overflow. This can be exploited to launch a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. The vulnerability can be exploited by a remote attacker.
Recommendations For DCMTK versions 3.6.6 and earlier, as a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the dcmqrdb program to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
