Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux Kernel versions prior to v5.4.126
Description:
The issue concerns the ftrace functionality, specifically the ftrace bug() function, where it blindly reads the IP address. This could potentially lead to security vulnerabilities, although the actual impact and attack plausibility have not yet been proven. The issue was introduced in version v2.6.28 and is fixed in Linux Kernel version v5.4.126.
Recommendations:
For Linux Kernel versions prior to v5.4.126, update to version v5.4.126 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the ftrace functionality until a patch is available.
